Message in a bottle

June 18th, 2010

I have just found out a way of getting attention to clients and it was very effective. Let me share this with you. I put a message in a bottle. Now I hunted down bottles that are plastic and very affordable! I rolled up letters and stuck them into the bottles with an offer and a great call to action. Out of the 10 I delivered I had 4 bookings within 2 hours. Not bad! So if you’re really wanting an effective tool to get attention, a message in a bottle is a way to go. Ohhhh and the good thing was I found beer bottles (for home brewery) for less than $1 each.

Marketing for Mothersday!

April 27th, 2010

Without doubt, one of the best online salon marketing opportunities for your salon or day spa is Mothers Day.

Having the ability to quickly and easily contact your client or prospect list is the key. And if you have the right salon email marketing campaign setup you can profit massively from this once a year event.

Here’s the salon marketing strategy for mothers day promotions.

* if you haven’t done it already, start collecting email addresses from your clients and prospects through your salon website or from those that visit your salon or day spa.
* you will make more profits from a multi-step email campaign. So in the week leading up to Mothers Day you should be planning 2 or 3 emails to go to your list.
* you must promote value added packages if you want to sell mothers day gift certificates. That is the packages that have a value far in excess of the gift voucher. Example… “get $397 worth of beauty treatments for only $247?. have a couple of packages available
* consistently use emails to stay in touch with clients and prospects.

IMMEDIATE SALON PRODUCT RECALL

March 31st, 2010

Rubber hair bands from China may have been made from used condoms. In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been purchased from a salon distribution in NSW.

“These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well … threatening the health of local people and despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses. People could be infected with (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,” Says Louanne, business owner.

A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just $2, much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity. Although the used condoms are supposedly recycled before being made into hair bands, it is unclear how thorough this process is and experts have warned that it is possible that the recycled rubber could still pose significant health risks.

If the public has purchased any hair bands from salons around Australia in the last 30 days please call your local salon to recall the product immediately and receive a free hair inspection of any warts or damage.

HAIR PRODUCT RECALL

Do you have a sales prevention department in your salon?

March 15th, 2010

Don’t call me Love!

This is my rant over bad customer service!

I couldn’t resist. Last month I had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant on the Gold Coast. It was a good opportunity to see firsthand bad service; actually it was appalling service to say the least.
The day before we dined at the restaurant we booked a table to be ready at 12.00. We had 12 people eating and as we arrived the waitresses didn’t acknowledged us, no tables where set.

The waitresses had faces like their bums had been slapped or they were sucking on lemons, they were young and were about in their 20’s. It seemed like it was very painful to serve us, to take our drink orders and so on. The glasses had lipstick stains on them and the plates were dirty. The meal was 45 minutes late and because we were running very late I decided to cancel the garlic bread. Now generally I am not a hot headed woman, and any one that knows me I am quite patient and calm, but when I was to finalize the account my blood was boiling! Now I won’t mention the name of the restaurant but let’s say it was in the Renaissance Plaza on the Gold Coast and had a very Italian feel to it.

When I was finalizing the account the waitress charged me for the $8 garlic bread, which had not been served to us. The waitress said “Love, you have to pay it!!” I think that was the rudest name to call an older customer, so I decided not to pay for the garlic bread. The total of the account was $180. 00

The head waitress started to stamp her feet over me not paying for garlic bread. So I kept quite calm and her remarks were “Just because I don’t look like I’m as rich as you Love ” then proceeded to tell me that one day she would be as rich as me. Quite a compliment actually …

I stood at the counter a bit dumb founded because she was performing like this in front of her restaurant customers. I decided to go and talk to my friend outside (in a loud voice) about the situation. In the waitress’ eyes it looked like I had decided to not pay for the whole meals and leave the restaurant. Yelling at me: “DON’T WALK AWAY FROM ME!!!”

When I had returned she didn’t charge me for the garlic bread… I felt a bit of victory. But in the same sense a bit sad for the owner of the business who had a “Sales prevention team” on board in his business.

Things to learn by this…

1. Don’t allow your staff to call your clients “love” or “pet” or “Gorgeous” actually don’t call them anything but their name.

2. Don’t run late for your appointments – if you are, make sure you tell your clients you are aware that you are running late to give them the option to rebook or have a complimentary treatment.

3. If a client isn’t happy with a $10 brow wax – don’t charge them for it!

4. If your staff are sour, find out why and let them know it’s unacceptable in your business.

5. Have clean linen and surroundings.

When was the last time you had a mystery shopper in your salon to give you feedback on your staff’s service etc.
